High School Sailing Program

In the fall of 2022, SailNashville worked with Hillsboro High School to sponsor a sailing club, the only high school sailing club in Tennessee.
Twelve students spent eight weekday afternoons learning to sail.
Using the American Sailing Association's ASA 110 Small Boat Sailing curriculum, the students were taught:
- How a sailboat sails
- The Points of Sail
- How to Rig a Dinghy
- Knots
- Tacking
- Jibing
- Righting Capsize
- Man Overboard
- Sailboat Safety
- Rules of the Road
Special thanks goes to SailNashville Instructors Hayden Summers, Sean McGauran, and Adrian Bahan for volunteering their time with the HHS Sailing Club.
Hayden Summers is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and currently a Junior at Rhodes College. Adrian Bahan is on the faculty at Hillsboro High School and served as club sponsor.
Plans are underway for a clinic in the spring of 2023, which will allow HHS Sailing Club students the chance to sail this summer and fall. Students will have the opportunity to earn their ASA 110 Small Boat Sailing certification.
The American Sailing Association is the largest provider of sailing instruction in the US. SailNashville is the only ASA sailing school in Tennessee.
SailNashville has provided its instructors and access to its sailboats as no cost .
